40 Days for Life prayer campaign ongoing

Everyone — from individuals to youth groups, friends or Bible study groups — is invited to devote an hour during Lent to pray outside an abortion clinic for an end to abortion.

The prayer effort is part of the 40 Days for Life campaign, says local coordinator Jeanne Wonio of Davenport.

At any time of day, come and pray outside clinics where abortion is performed — such as Planned Parenthood in Bettendorf and Iowa City, Emma Goldman in Iowa City or a clinic in another community, she said.

Those praying should concentrate on prayer and not carry signs, she suggested.

According to the 40 Days for Life Web site, from Feb. 25 through April 5 people throughout the United States, Canada, Northern Ireland and Australia will gather for “one of the largest and longest coordinated pro-life mobilization efforts in history.”

The campaign consists of 40 days of prayer and fasting, 40 days of peaceful vigil and 40 days of community outreach.

“We strive to have an all-day, every-day presence during Lent in front of Planned Parenthood,” Wonio said.
