IOWA CITY — Christine Whelan, Ph.D., will discuss “Dating and Marriage: A Modern Catholic Perspective” from 7:30-9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19, at the Biology Building East, Main Auditorium 101, on the corner of Iowa Avenue and Dubuque Street.

Whelan is an author, journalist and University of Iowa visiting assistant professor of sociology. She will use recent national survey data and insights from her biweekly dating and relationship advice column on BustedHalo.com, a young-adult Catholic Web site, to explore the myth of soulmates, the hook-up culture and offer guidance. She also will discuss changing dating and marriage patterns in the United States from a Catholic perspective.

The talk is part of the Journeys in Fatih Speaker’s Forum, sponsored by the Newman Catholic Student Center, and is free and open to all.  For more information, call Dr. Kathleen Staley at (319) 335-7294.
