Take action on pro-life conscience legislation

We need action now! That includes in-depth information about the dangers of any governmental action — both state and federal legislation — that would threaten the choice and conscience of health-care providers and the rest of us in participating professionally or through health insurance or tax dollars that require our involvement in abortion or other action that threatens the dignity or very lives of vulnerable human beings.

The health-care postcard campaign provided no such information. Room for comments from those who have informed themselves was inadequate as well.

Mike O’Dea, executive director of The Christus Foundation and John Brehany of the Catholic Medical Association warn that such threats are real.

Besides CMA, the Christian Medical Association and American Association of Prolife Obstetricians and Gynecologists are attempting to counter lawsuits filed by Planned Parenthood, the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association and others. Their lawsuit would overturn regulations that codify statutes that protect health professionals from discrimination when they refuse to participate in abortion in any way. Think how that might also affect pro-life pregnancy centers that rely on medical professionals for vital services.

The comment period regarding the rescission of these protective regulations ends Thursday, April 9.

Yes, we need action now. Contact the White House at: president@whitehouse.gov or www.whitehouse.gov or call (202) 456-1414.

How is it “pro-choice” to take away choice and freedom of conscience from professionals with the removal of protection, or the passage of health-care reform that takes away the same from the rest of us?
