LITURGY/PRAYER

Davenport — A Memorial Day Mass will be celebrated May 25 at 8:30 a.m. at the Priests’ Circle in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Bishop Martin Amos will preside. In case of inclement weather, Mass will be celebrated at St. Paul the Apostle Church at 9 a.m.

Iowa City — Centering Prayer groups meet from 7-8 p.m. Mondays at the Mercy Hospital chapel, and from 9-11:30 a.m. the fourth Saturday of each month at a member’s home. For more information, call Maureen Kelley at (319) 338-8284.

Knoxville — A holy hour of prayer will take place at St. Anthony Parish May 27       at 6 p.m.

SOCIALS

Iowa City — People are invited to celebrate the retirement of Raymond Pechous, principal of Regina High School in Iowa City. The celebration will take place at the Knights of Columbus Hall on American Legion Road in Iowa City on Thursday, May 28, from 4-7 p.m. Pechous has worked at Regina Catholic Education Center since 1988.

Iowa City — A celebration of Father Mike Phillips’ 40th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood will begin with 10 a.m. Mass at St. Wenceslaus Church May 31. A reception will follow. Fr. Phillips has requested no gifts. People may donate to a pro-life charity in his name.

Iowa City — A celebration of Father Wally Helms’ 40th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood will begin with 11 a.m. Mass at St. Thomas More Church May 31. Lunch will follow. RSVP by calling (319) 337-2173.

Maquoketa — Father Bill Kneemiller, pastor of parishes in Toronto, Lost Nation and Oxford Junction, will host a birthday party at the 61 Drive-In Theatre south of Maquoketa May 27. The theater is located at Highway 61 and Highway 136. Gates open at 6 p.m., and the movie “Fireproof” will be shown at about 8:30 p.m. Tailgating will take place before the movie. Freewill offerings will be accepted.
