Sr. Spitz to celebrate 60 years

Sister Theresa Ann Spitz

Sister Theresa Ann Spitz, RSM, will celebrate 60 years as a Sister of Mercy on Sunday, June 14, with a Mass at the Chapel of Mercy at Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids. A reception will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the Mount Mercy College Campus Ministry Foyer.

Sr. Spitz has spent the last 29 years in the Davenport Diocese at St. Joseph’s School and Parish in DeWitt where she has served as a teacher, parish worker and pastoral minister.  Prior to her years in DeWitt, she taught in Montana and elsewhere in Iowa. 

Sr. Spitz grew up in rural Osage, Iowa, where she attended Osage High School and was received by the Sisters of Mercy in 1949.  Prior to her years in ministry, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount Mercy College where she majored in English with a minor in education.
