Robert H. Burg, 89, of Burlington, died at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at Burlington Care Center.

Born March 24, 1920, in Burlington, he was the son of Emil and Ruth Anderson Burg.  On May 23, 1943, he married Helen A. Steingreaber in Denver, Colo.

Bob was a photographer for Library Binding in Des Moines and then worked for the State of Iowa as an X-ray technician for 5 years.  He retired in 1983.

He was a graduate of Burlington High School.  He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Sergeant X-Ray technician at Fritzsimmons General Hospital in Fort Lewis, Washington.

He was a member of Ss. John and Paul Catholic Church. He was an avid woodworker and train enthusiast. He especially enjoyed music and photography.

Survivors include wife, Helen of Burlington; and five sister-in-laws, Renee Burg of Mediapolis, Margaret Ostrom of Champaign, Ill., Francis Dunnigan of Kalamazoo, Mich., Mary Dodge and Ruth Pfeffer both of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two half sisters, one brother, and one infant brother.

Visitation will be from noon until 8 p.m. with the family to receive friends following a 6 p.m. rosary service until 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home.

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Burg will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2009, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church Rev. Father Patrick J. Hilgendorf as the celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Alzheimer’s Association.
