Talk on Catholic response to economy

AMES — Dr. Peter Orazem and Shari Reilly will facilitate a presentation and discussion entitled “The Catholic Response to the Current Economy” at Wisdom and Wine in the lower lounge of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and Catholic Student Center, Friday, July 31, 6:30-8:30 p.m. 

Orazem, Iowa State University economics professor, will speak on the current economy, indicators of the recession and how Iowa compares with the rest of the nation. Reilly, STA Director of Campus Ministry, will focus on Catholic social teaching and Pope Benedict XVI’s newly released encyclical, “Caritas in Veritate” (Charity in Truth). 

Wisdom and Wine is free and open to participants 25 years of age and older. Wine and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided.  Participants are asked to bring hors d’oeuvres and to please RSVP by Thursday, July 30.  They may call the parish office at (515) 292-3810, e-mail Kathy White at Kathy@staparish.net, or sign up at STA in the gathering space.
