Sr. Juanita Jansen, RSM, dies

Sister Juanita Jansen, RSM, died Oct. 22 at Provena McAuley Manor in Aurora, Ill. She was 96.

A native of Chicago, Sr. Jansen entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1931 after graduating from Mercy High earlier that year. She spent the majority of her 78 years as a Sister in leadership roles in education. She was known as a woman with a great love of God and limitless energy.

She served as principal of several schools in both the Chicago and Davenport areas. In Davenport, she served at Holy Family as a teacher and a principal from 1948-54. She also served at St. Patrick High School in the diocese from 1957-61.

 In 1972, she began work in the psychology department at Mercy Center in St. Charles, Ill. In 1978 she joined the staff of Mercy Center in Aurora, Ill., in the psychology department and worked there for 12 years. From 1990 to 2002, she was a volunteer for Provena Mercy Medical Center.

Sr. Jansen received her B.A. in English in 1949 from St. Ambrose College in Davenport.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Oct. 27 at McAuley Chapel. Interment was at Mt. Olivet, Aurora, Ill.
