Debbie Wagenbach speaks to students at Notre Dame Elementary Nov. 16.

Debbie Wagenbach, Burlington’s newest children’s author, presented her book, “The Grouchies,” to Notre Dame Elementary preschool through fifth-grade students Nov. 16.

Miss Debbie, who many of the students recognized from story hours at the Burlington Public Library, introduced herself through family pictures. She shared pictures of her and her brothers and sister, her early attempts at writing and illustrating books when she was a little girl, and her performance in a high school play.

She then continued with the process of writing a book, introducing students to her editor and her illustrator. As she read her book, the students were all able to see the illustrations projected on the screen.

After her presentation, the students asked questions about the process of writing a book and the possibility of more books to come about the Grouchies. On leaving the library, Miss Debbie gave each student a Grouchie sticker, and passed out the autographed books that families had ordered. All the teachers received a Grouchie button.
