St. Ambrose commencement set

DAVENPORT — St. Ambrose University will hold its 2009 Winter Commencement ceremony at 11 a.m., Dec. 19, at the River Center, 136 East Third St., Davenport. A total of 307 degrees, including 198 bachelor degrees, 74 master degrees and 35 doctoral degrees, will be conferred. 

Corinne Johnson, St. Ambrose professor of theater, will deliver the commencement address. Johnson has been a member of the theater department faculty since 1989. Currently she is serving her third term as department chair. 

Over the years Johnson has served on a regional level in many executive roles related to the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, a national program involving 18,000 college and university theater students. In 2005 she was named Acting Coach of the Year at the Region Five American College Theatre Festival. For the past six years Johnson has accompanied St. Ambrose students advancing to the national theater festival competition held at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

In addition to her St. Ambrose faculty roles, Johnson maintains a career as a professional actor and director. She has worked at Circa ‘21 Dinner Playhouse in Rock Island, Ill.; Riverside Theatre in Iowa City; and New Ground Theatre in Davenport. Johnson is an active company member of The Curtainbox Theatre Ensemble, also of Davenport.

Seating for the commencement ceremony is open with no tickets required, but guests are encouraged to arrive early. Anyone needing special accommodations should contact the St Ambrose Services for Students with Disabilities office at (563) 333-6275.
