Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Thomas P. Voss, Sr., 63, a resident of Davenport will be 10 a.m.. Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1923 N. Fillmore St., Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport, with military graveside rites conducted by the Vietnam Veterans of America Q.C. Chapter #299.  Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 22, from 4-7 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main St., downtown Davenport.  A prayer service will held at 4  p.m. to begin the visitation.

Tom died surrounded by his family at his home in Davenport on Friday, Dec. 18, 2009.  He died following a courageous battle with cancer.

Thomas Paul Voss was born August 22, 1946, in Davenport to Harry F. and Jane E. (Godesiabois) Voss. He graduated from Assumption High School class of 1964, and attended Scott Community College. He had been active in Scouting in earlier years and was an Eagle Scout.

 He was united in marriage to Brenda L. Richters on Sept. 7, 1968.

Tom was proud to have served our country in the U.S. Army. He attained the rank of SP4, and spent some of his enlistment in Korea.

He has been employed for 40 years at MidAmerican Energy Company.  He had been a Combustion Turbine specialist.  He retired due to his illness on Nov. 25, 2009.

He was a member of Holy Family Church, Deacon Gerald Timmerman Knights of Columbus Council #14678, Life Member of N.R.A., and Friends of Vander Veer Park.

Tom loved to spend time outdoors; he especially enjoyed taking long walks with Brenda and their dog at West Lake Park.  He was a very talented horticulturist and had a wonderful knack raising water lilies, orchids and poinsettias.

Memorials can be made to Holy Family Church, the American Cancer Society, or to Friends of Vander Veer Park.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Brenda, a son and daughter-in-law, Staff Sgt. Jason and Kelli Voss, Blue Grass (currently stationed in Iraq with the U.S. Army); Jason and Kelli’s family, Angela, Michael, and their grandchildren, Elijah, Melissa and Alyna; his parents, Harry and Jane Voss, Davenport, and siblings, Nancy (Gary) Kubat, Madison, Wis.; Harry Fritz Voss III, Germany; Richard (Anita) Voss, Carlsbad, N.M.; David (Jo) Voss, Sturgis, S.D.; and Peggy (Karlis “Chuck”) Norkus, Davenport, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A son, Thomas P. Voss, Jr., preceded him in death on May 30, 1995.  May they rest in peace.
