Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for LaVern M. Noel, 87, a resident of Long Grove, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Long Grove.

Visitation will be at the church Monday from 4-7 p.m., where the family invites all to join them to pray the rosary at 7 p.m.  Burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to Catholic Relief Services for the Haitian earthquake survivor’s relief effort. 

Mr. Noel died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010 at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf.

LaVern Martin Noel was born on the family farm, Feb. 17, 1922 in Long Grove, the son of Joseph and Hannora (O’Neill) Noel.  He was united in marriage to Elsbeth E. Schmahl on April 22, 1950 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church.

LaVern had worked, as an electrician for Farmall Works in Rock Island until he retired in 1984. He had also worked the family farm and was an active member of St. Ann’s Church; but his greatest joy in life came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Elsbeth and their children and spouses, Emilie and Douglas Zehr, Bondurant, Iowa; Caroline and Thomas Toohey, Davenport; Diane Noel, Port Byron, Ill.; Noreen and Robert Warren, Long Grove; Barbara and Pete Hyde, Eldridge; Frances and Samuel Lisle, Fair View, Texas; Kenneth and Kathie Noel, Fruitland, Iowa; Edward Noel, Long Grove and Dean Noel, Davenport; 20 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and one pending. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. May they rest in peace.
