Sister Annette Gallagher, (Sister Mary Annette), 86, died Sunday, Jan. 24, at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center, Johnston. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28,  at the Humility of Mary Center in Davenport.  Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport.

Longtime Marycrest College educator Sr. Gallagher was born Nov. 10, 1924, in Bevington. Sr. Gallagher graduated from Martindale Consolidated High School in 1941 and then attended Ottumwa Heights College in Ottumwa.

On Jan. 24, 1943, she entered the Congregation of the Humility of Mary and professed first vows in 1945. She continued her education at Marycrest College in Davenport, receiving a B.A. in 1948. She received an M.A. in history from Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. in 1950 and a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in Tucson in 1970.

Sr. Gallagher was a history and current affairs teacher at Marycrest College. She later became reference librarian, archivist, college academic advisor and Marycrest Alumni Association secretary.
