LITURGY/PRAYER

Bettendorf — A candlelight vigil will take place at the pro-life Women’s Choice Center, 2711 Happy Joe Drive, Bettendorf on Friday, Jan. 22. This event is for people of all faiths. For those who desire, there will be a rosary at the WCC before the event at 6:30 p.m. At 7 p.m., there will be a program inside Heritage Church behind the center. At 8 p.m., there will be a prayer service outside the abortion clinic. At 8:15 p.m., refreshments will be served inside the Women’s Choice Center.

Davenport — The Sisters of Humility invite the general public to pray with them at 11:40 a.m. Wednesdays during a special Mass for peace. It will be celebrated in the Magnificat Chapel at the Humility of Mary Center, 820 W. Central Park Ave.

Davenport — A healing Mass will be celebrated Friday, Jan. 15 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 10th and Iowa streets. Confessions begin at 6 p.m., praise music at 6:30 p.m. and Mass at 7:15 p.m. All are welcome.

Iowa City — People meet to pray the rosary and receive Communion at 1 p.m. Wednesdays at Melrose Meadows Retirement Community. All Catholics are welcome.

Iowa City — Centering Prayer groups meet from 7-8 p.m. Mondays at the Mercy Hospital chapel, and from 9-11:30 a.m. the fourth Saturday of each month at a member’s home. For more information, call Maureen Kelley at (319) 338-8284.

Melrose — The Knights of Columbus of Albia sponsor a 24-hour adoration the first Friday of the month at St. Patrick Church in Melrose. Mass begins at 8 a.m., followed by 24 hours of adoration, and closes with benediction at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday. For more information or to sign up for an hour, call Tony Humeston at (641) 932-7709.

MEETINGS

Bettendorf — St. John Vianney Parish is offering monthly caregiver support meetings on the second Wednesday of the month from 1-2:30 p.m. Janet Rubelmann, a parishioner of St. John Vianney, is the support meeting facilitator. Davenport — A Catholic Single Mothers Support Group invites new members for prayer and discussion on positive parenting and balancing life’s demands. Mothers will meet and hear a different speaker monthly in an informal setting. To take part, call Joan at (563) 323-0175.

RETREATS

DeWitt — A Christian Experience Weekend for women will take place Jan. 22-24 at St. Joseph School. The men’s weekend is Feb. 5-7 at the school. Davenport — St. Ambrose University will be celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Jan. 18 from 1:15 to 10 p.m. with a gospel choir, a people’s march, dinner, screening of Spike Lee’s film “Bamboozled,”  and presentation by Msgr. Marvin Mottet. All events are free except the dinner ($5 per person, reservations required). Events will take place at various locations on the St. Ambrose University campus, 518 W. Grand Mound —  Ss. Philip & James Parish will hold a soup supper Sunday, Jan. 24,  from 4-7 p.m. Menu includes all-you-can-eat chili and chicken noodle soup with cornbread and desserts. A bake sale will feature homemade treats. Cost is $6 for adults and   $2.50 for children younger than 12.

Melcher — Sacred Heart Parish’s Altar & Rosary Society will hold a chicken noodle dinner Jan. 16 at 5 p.m. in the church hall. After dinner, the Knights of Columbus will have a Bunco party at 7 p.m.

Muscatine — The Knights of Columbus will hold a pancake breakfast Jan. 17 from 8:30-11 a.m. in Gannon Hall. Pancakes, eggs and sausage will be served.
