CORALVILLE — A Lenten mini-retreat, “Stand-up Christianity: Humor and the Bible,” will take place Saturday, Feb. 20, from 9 a.m. to noon at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3000 12th Ave., Coralville.

The keynote speaker will be the Rev. Dr. David Swinton, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Harlan.

“Stand-up Christianity: Humor and the Bible” will highlight the ways faith and a sense of humor can help uncover truth, grant surprising shifts in perspective, make pain bearable and make joy a regular habit. The mini-retreat will also look at how the Bible uses humor.

The Rev. Dr. Swinton grew up in several Iowa small towns, including Wapello and Tipton. He attended college in Indianola and seminary in Evanston, Ill. After working with youth in Philadelphia, Chicago and Denver, he returned to Iowa in 1994 and has served as a United Methodist minister in Storm Lake, Perry and Harlan. He has a Doctor of Ministry degree in preaching from the Association of Chicago Theological Schools.
