Film to depict impact of Postville raid

DAVENPORT — The Iowa premiere of the documentary film “In the Shadow of the Raid” will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, in the Rogalski Center Ballroom on the St. Ambrose University campus in Davenport.

The documentary depicts the impact of the 2008 Postville, Iowa, raid on Guatemalan workers, their families in two Guatemalan communities, other residents and community organizers in Postville. 

 A panel discussion will follow with filmmakers Greg Brosnan and Jennifer Szymaszek; Rosie Zamora, one of the Guatemalan workers detained during the raid; Father Paul Ouderkirk of St. Bridget’s church who has supported immigrants in Postville; and Paul Rael, member of the Latino ministries staff at St. Bridget’s.

This event is cosponsored by Ambrose Women for Social Justice, Campus Ministry, Intercultural Life and Leadership, Service Learning, Theology and Women’s Studies. A grant from Humanities Iowa is supporting the event.
