John A. "Jack" Gardina, 83, a resident of Davenport died Friday, Feb. 12, 2010 at Genesis East Campus in Davenport following a brief illness. 

Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial were Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 916 E. Rusholme Street, Davenport. Burial was in the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. 

John Andrew Gardina was born June 4, 1926 in Asheville, Pa., a son of Joseph A. and Grace (Crilley) Gardina.  John was proud to have served in the U.S. Navy during WW II.

He was united in marriage to Theresa Jean Gettings on Feb. 18, 1950 in Cresson, Pa.  Jean preceded him in death on July 6, 2009.

John graduated from the St. Francis College, Loretto, Pa., with a B.A. in business. He retired in 1988 from the Cummins Company following many years with a career in sales  and management. 

Mr. Gardina had been an active member of St. Paul the Apostle Church and the Knights of Columbus.  He enjoyed golf, gardening and his grandchildren.

Survivors include his daughters, Faith (Larry) Endresen, Bettendorf, Hope Gardina, Clinton, Claudia (Scott) Mescher, Hibbing, Minn., Cindy Gardina, Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.; Michelle Kolar, Davenport, Monica (Mike) Slamkowski, Colorado Springs, Colo., Jackie Gardina, Putney,Vt.;  his sons, Tim (Ileana) Gardina, Managua, Nicaragua, Kevin Gardina, Muscatine, Tony (Stacey) Gardina, Franklin, Tenn.; 21 grandchildren, two great grandchildren; and a sister Janet Ruscio, Altoona, Pa.  

In addition to his wife Jean, he was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Vern, Ralph and Raymond Gardina.  May they rest in peace.
