FISH FRIES

Albia — Knights of Columbus will hold fish fries on Fridays during Lent from 5-7 p.m. at the KC Hall.

Clinton — Knights of Columbus fish fries will take place at St. Boniface Hall on Fridays from Feb. 19 to March 26 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Menu includes fried or baked fish, baked potato, French fries, coleslaw, applesauce, bread and drink. Grilled cheese sandwiches will be available. Cost is $7 for adults, $3.50 for children ages 3-12 and free for children younger than 3. Seven jumbo shrimp will cost $8. Carryouts willl be available.

DeWitt — Fish fries will take place at the Knights of Columbus Hall Fridays from Feb. 19 to April 2 from 5-7:30 p.m. Menu includes all-you-care-to-eat whole catfish and fillets, or a single serving of boiled shrimp, and baked potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, pudding, dinner rolls and beverages. Cost is $9 for adults and $5 for children ages 5-12. Proceeds benefit the Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph School and the St. Joseph youth group’s service trip. Harper — Knights of Columbus will hold fish fries Feb. 19 and 26 and March 5, 12, 19  and 26 from 5-8 p.m. All will be held in the KC hall, except the dinner on March 12, which will be at St. Mary Parish’s hall in Sigourney. Whole catfish will be served.

Iowa City — Knights of Columbus fish dinners will take place each Friday during Lent, except Good Friday, from 5-7 p.m. at the KC Family Center. Menu includes catfish  for $9, shrimp for $10, salmon for $12, spaghetti, sides and beverages.

Knoxville — Knights of Columbus fish fries will take place at St. Anthony Parish Fridays during Lent at 6 p.m.

Mount Pleasant — Fish fries will take place in Manning Hall beginning Feb. 19  at 6 p.m. on Fridays during Lent.

Newton — Knights of Columbus fish fries will take place on Fridays at 5 p.m. from Feb. 19 to March 26 at the McCann Center.

Pella — Knights of Columbus will hold fish fries at St. Mary Church from 6-8 p.m Feb. 19 and 26 and March 5, 12, 19 and 26.

Tipton — Knights of Columbus will hold fish fries at St. Mary’s parish hall Feb. 26 and March 26. Pollack will be served at the first dinner and catfish at the second.

West Liberty — Knights of Columbus fish fries will take place at St. Joseph Parish Life Center Feb. 19 and March 5, 19 and 26 from 5-7:30 p.m. Menu includes catfish fillets, baked potato, baked beans, coleslaw, bread, dessert, coffee, lemonade and iced tea. Cost for adults is $8.50, and cost for children younger than 13 is $4.

LITURGY/PRAYER

Albia — Stations of the Cross will be held each Friday during Lent at 5:10 p.m. at St. Mary Church.

Camanche — A soup and sandwich supper will be held on Wednesday evenings during Lent at 6 p.m. followed by the rosary at 6:45 p.m. and Stations of the Cross at 7 p.m. at Church of the Visitation.

Davenport — Our Lady of Victory Parish will offer Stations of the Cross at 6 p.m., soup suppers at 6:30 p.m. and prayer reflections at 7:15 p.m. each Friday during Lent.

Davenport — Adoration will take place each Wednesday during Lent from 4-5 p.m. at St. Mary Church. Mass is at 5:30 p.m., with a soup supper to follow in the parish center.

Davenport — A healing Mass will be celebrated Thursday, Feb. 18, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 10th and Iowa streets. Confessions begin at 6 p.m.; praise music at 6:40 p.m. and Mass at 7:15 p.m. All are welcome. For more information, call (563) 324-3257.

Fort Madison — Holy Family Parish will show the movie “Padre Pio: Miracle Man” at McAleer Hall Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. The movie is based on the life of the Franciscan friar who bore the sigmata — the wounds of Christ — and was canonized a saint in 2002. The film received the Audience Award at the Los Angeles Italian Film Awards in 2001. Freewill offerings will be accepted.

Pella — St. Mary Parish will offer Stations of the Cross Feb. 19 and 26 at 5:30 p.m. and March 12, 18, 19, 26 and April 2 at 3 p.m. No stations will be held March 5.

MEETINGS

Albia — A six-week Lenten study, “Your Spiritual Garden: Tending to the Presence of God” by Pegge Bernecker, will be held each Monday at 1:30 p.m. and again at 6:30 p.m. at St. Mary Parish.

Bettendorf — On Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. in St John Vianney Church, parishioner  Keith Cavanagh will lead a Lenten preparatory event based on his book, “How to Get Hired by Heaven Inc.”  A reception will follow in the gathering space. Child care will be available.

Iowa City — St. Patrick Church is offering a Lenten reflection group entitled, “The Way of Suffering as a Way of Redemption.” Those who are living with illness, as well as family members and caretakers, are invited. This group will meet weekly through the Lenten season on Tuesdays (Feb. 23, March 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30) from 7-8:30 p.m. in the parlor at St. Patrick Church. The group will be co-led by David Klemm, a professor of theology and ethics at the University of Iowa, and his wife, Catherine Deming, a licensed mental health counselor with the Counseling Center of Iowa City.

Pella — St. Mary Parish will offer a parish mission Feb. 28 to March 4 nightly from 6-8 p.m. titled “Renewing Your Spirit”  with Father Tony Judge.

RETREATS

Clinton —  Prince of Peace Parish will host its 13th annual Christian Experience Weekend on March 5-7 for men at Prince of Peace Academy and College Preparatory. The weekend begins Friday at 8 p.m. and ends Sunday at 5 p.m. Cost is $35. A $10 deposit is required at sign-up. Call Cathy Eggers at (563) 357-9829 with questions or for a registration form. 

Coralville — A Lenten mini-retreat, “Stand-up Christianity: Humor and the Bible,” will take place Saturday, Feb. 20, from 9 a.m. to noon at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3000 12th Ave.The keynote speaker will be the Rev. Davenport — The Christian Service Committee of Our Lady of Victory Parish in Davenport is sponsoring a one-day ecumenical renewal for adults with disabilities and their family and friends. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church’s Parish Center, 4105 North Division St. The cost is $15, which includes lunch. Keota — A Christ in Others Retreat will take place March 26-28 at Holy Trinity Parish Center. The retreat is for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors and is a weekend of reflection about family and relationships.
