Admitting guilt in dealing with abuse is difficult

Abuse of another is a crisis for both the abuser and the abused. Cardinal Roger Mahony  “has admitted that in hindsight, he had made mistakes in dealing with some cases (of abuse) on his watch …” (The Catholic Messenger, Vol.128, No. 13, 2010).

I wonder why such an admission is more difficult to say in Rome than in Los Angeles. Defensiveness enhances sensationalism. Let’s all pray for wisdom, honesty and humility for ourselves and those who would lead.
