Michael John Freund, 61, of Asheville, N.C., passed into the arms of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on Feb. 13, 2010.  Michael was a former resident of Davenport, and the son of Mary Jean Fruend and the late John Kevlin Freund.  Besides his mother, he is also survived by his sister, Catherine (David D. Kinsman) of St. Louis; his brother, David (Connie) of Bettendorf and his four nephews, David D. Kinsman, Jr., Ryan, Tyler and Alex Freund.

Michael graduated from Central High School and attended St. Ambrose University before joining the Naval Reserves where he served as a Medic during the Vietnam War. After his return he worked as a carpenter traveling with a construction company that let him enjoy the outdoors and his love of freedom.  He was a master carpenter and loved his work.

Michael was in a serious work related accident in June of 2005 from which he never quite recovered.  He passed in his sleep and was cremated according to his wishes.  He is now in heaven playing catch with his father, which was one of his favorite pastimes.

A memorial Mass and celebration of Mike’s life was held at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Davenport May 14. Burial will be for family only at the Rock Island Arsenal. The Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
