Iowa City — Leah Darrow, a former contestant on the reality show “America’s Next Top Model,” will speak on her faith journey at the University of Iowa Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Buchanan Auditorium (W-10) in the Pappajohn Business Building at the corner of Jefferson and Clinton streets. Her talk is entitled:  “Thoughts from the Runway:  An America’s Top Model Contestant Explores Issues of Fashion, Pop Culture, and Faith.” The talk is free and open to all. It is sponsored by the Newman Catholic Student Center and the Journeys in Faith Speaker’s Forum.

Bettendorf — The 20th annual Life Chain, a peaceful time of prayer for the unborn, will be held from 2-3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, on Middle Road at Happy Joe Drive. Meet at 1:30 p.m. at the Women’s Choice Center, 2711 Happy Joe Drive. Bring family, friends and youth groups.

MEETINGS

Davenport — St. Anthony Parish is beginning a fall session of Grief Share, a program for people experiencing the death of a loved one. At the meetings, participants will experience loving support and learn valuable information to help them.   Each session is self-contained, so people may join at anytime. The new 12-week session begins Tuesday, Sept. 28, from 6:30-8 p.m. at  St. Anthony Parish Center. Brooklyn — St. Patrick Parish will hold a bazaar Oct. 3. A family-style meal will be served from 3:30 – 6:30 p.m. Menu includes oven-baked steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, coleslaw, green beans, applesauce, homemade wheat roll, pie and drink.  Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 12 and younger, and $1 for children 4 and younger. There will be a baked goods booth, country store and farmers’ market, and grab bag booth that will open at 2 p.m. A raffle will begin at 6 p.m. with prizes of cash and donated items.

Davenport — St. Paul the Apostle Parish will hold its Oktoberfest Sept. 26 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. An authentic German dinner will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Denning Hall. The event also will feature a raffle, children’s games and the Deutsche Polka Band. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.

Davenport — St. Patrick Society of the Quad Cities will hold its Lucky Trivia Night Oct. 1 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1111 W. 35th St. Doors open at 6 p.m. and play begins at 7 p.m. Donation is $80 per team of eight. Buy a 2010 St. Patrick Society membership and receive $5 off the table price. Participants may bring their own snacks; beverages will be for sale. Proceeds benefit the St. Patrick’s Day Grand Parade. Davenport — A Taste of Sacred Heart will be held at Sacred Heart Cathedral Sunday, Sept. 26, at 12:30 pm.  Featured will be a food court with ethnic foods including Chinese, Italian, Mexican, Slavic, Vietnamese and American. There will be a raffle, musical entertainment and fun for kids (pony rides, bounce house and games). Tickets for food and games will be available for purchase on the premises. Information on Sacred Heart’s history and cookbooks will also be available.

Grinnell — St. Mary Parish will hold its fall festival Sept. 26 at the education center. A pork chop dinner with salad and dessert will be served from noon to 3 p.m. Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children younger than 12. Carryouts are available. There will also be a live auction, silent auction, raffles, a country store, inflatables and hayride. Tickets are available at the parish office, Bates Flowers, Danish Maid Bakery, Total Choice Shipping and West Side Family Dining.

Houghton — St. John Parish will hold its Harvest Festival Sept. 26. A roast beef dinner will be served at the Knights of Columbus Hall from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Carryouts are available. There will be a country and candy kitchen, and an auction begins at 11:30 a.m. A raffle drawing will take place at 3 p.m. Raffle tickets cost $50. First prize is a $10,000 vacation package or $8,000 cash, second prize is $1,000 cash and 10 third prizes are $100 cash.

Iowa City — Knights of Columbus will offer dinners from 5-7 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month through November at the KC Family Center, 4776 American Legion Road. Iowa City — St. Wenceslaus Parish will hold a pork loin dinner Oct. 3 from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pork loin, mashed potatoes and gravy, dressing, sauerkraut, Czech green beans, applesauce, Kolache, assorted desserts, beverages and Texas Roadhouse rolls will be served in the parish hall. Cost is $10 for adults and $4 for children ages 4-10.  Carry-outs are available at the rectory or garage from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ron Johnson will provide musical entertainment.

Lone Tree — St. Mary Parish’s fall auction will take place Sept. 26 at the Lone Tree American Legion. A silent auction will run from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Lunch will be served beginning at 11 a.m. The regular auction will follow at 1 p.m. People may bid on homemade pies, cakes and crafts.

Wellman — St. Joseph Parish will hold its annual fall pork loin and turkey dinner on Sunday, Oct. 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The auction begins at 1:45 p.m. with many gift certificates, meals, homemade items and a Mississippi River Boat trip for 10 people. Homemade items and noodles will be for sale at the Country Store. Carry-out is available. Tickets are $9 for adults, $4 for children ages 4-10, and free for children 3 and younger.

West Burlington — Ss. Mary & Patrick Parish will hold its fall festival and pork and turkey dinner Oct. 3. Cost is $8 for adults and $3.50 for children; serving time is 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the parish center. There will be an auction for prime parking spaces, raffle for cash prizes of up to $300 and a country store with crafts and baked goods.

Wilton — St. Mary Parish will hold a family-style ham and turkey dinner Oct. 3 from 1-4 p.m. There will be a country store, crafts, grab bags, and homemade candies and goods. Cost is $8 for adults, $3 for children ages 5-12 and free for children 4 and younger. Carryouts are available.
