Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret Mary Long, 88, will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Davenport.
Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. All are invited to join the family at 4 p.m. to pray the rosary. There will be an additional visitation on Monday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. Mary passed away Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010 at Rosewood Nursing Home, Moline, Ill.
Margaret Mary Shannon was born March 2, 1922 in Charlotte, Iowa the daughter of John and Frances (O’Toole) Shannon. She was united in marriage to Jesse A. Long on June 29, 1946. He preceded her in death June 29, 1994.
Mary was a teacher with the Davenport School System retiring from Harrison Elementary in 1981.
Memorials may be made to the Harrison School Library.
Survivors include her children, Barbara Long (Andy Grepares) E. Moline, Ill. and Tim Long, Iowa City; her sister, Colette (Jon) Ripslinger, Davenport, as well as numerous other extended family.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, Carmilla Summers and two brothers, Norbert and Virgil Shannon.
