Parishes throughout the Davenport Diocese have collected a total of $45,101.14 for the people of Pakistan impacted by severe flooding in late July and early August.

The floods claimed the lives of nearly 2,000 people throughout the country and left some 10 million homeless. Residents of northern Pakistan — still recovering from a devastating 2005 earthquake — are struggling to take care of serious humanitarian challenges that are likely to grow more intense as this region of high mountains, steep valleys and isolated villages prepares for the approaching winter.

People may still donate by sending checks to the Diocese of Davenport, 780 W. Central Park Ave., Davenport, Iowa, 52804, earmarked for Catholic Relief Services, said diocesan Social Action Director Kent Ferris.
