Viola Strobbe

Viola Strobbe, 93, a resident of Long Grove, Iowa died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010 at Bickford Cottage, Davenport. 

Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Viola will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Long Grove. Burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday at St. Ann’s Church beginning at 3 p.m. with a prayer service that all are invited to attend. Following the prayer service, the family will greet friends  until 7 p.m. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Anna Viola Doyle was born April 19, 1917 in Scott County, Iowa, a daughter of James William and Mary Ellen (McKinney) Doyle. She was united in marriage to LeRoy Strobbe on Jan. 10, 1940 in Princeton, Iowa.  He preceded her in death on September 15, 2003.   

She had farmed along with her husband in the Long Grove area until they retired in 1979.

Memorials can be made to St. Ann’s Guild or to the Scott County Library.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Ray (Jan) Strobbe, Coralville, Iowa; Ruth (James) Strobbe, Hoffman Estates, Ill; Mary Ann (John) Dismer, Springfield, Mo.; Don (Mike) Strobbe, Bettendorf, Madonna (Steve) Engler, Bettendorf; Dennis (Vi) Strobbe, Long Grove; and Nancy (Ken) Johnson, Omaha, 15 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter and sister-in-law, Vera Doyle, Princeton, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, James, grandson, Bradley Strobbe, a great-granddaughter, Sarah Dismer, and her siblings, Marie Wisor, Bill, Lee, Vincent, Raymond, Lester and Harvey Doyle. May they rest in peace.

The Strobbe family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Schreck and the skilled, caring staff at Bickford Cottage.
