BETTENDORF — “Waiting with Mary” is the title of a two-part presentation Nov. 4 and 11 at St. John Vianney Parish in Bettendorf as part of its speaker series.

Corinne Winter, a professor at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, will give both presentations at 7 p.m. in St. John Vianney’s chapel. Vatican II called Mary a “Sign of Hope and Solace” for the people of God, and the history of Marian devotion clearly supports that assertion.

In the first session, participants will explore the relationship between Marian doctrine and doctrines of Christ and of the Church and will see Mary as a sign of the relationship we are called to have with God in Christ. In the second session, participants will review some of the diverse ways in which devotion to Mary has been and is expressed within the Catholic community and will discuss expressions that provide hope and solace in a contemporary local situation.
