LECTURES

Clinton — On Sunday, Nov. 14, “Tips for Greening the Holidays” will explore ways to use fewer of the world’s goods,  cut down on consumption and save energy. The session will offer party tips for green entertaining and ideas on how to reuse and recycle. The free, public event sponsored by the Clinton Franciscan Center for Active Nonviolence and Peace-making will be at The Canticle, home of the Sisters of St. Francis, 841 13th Ave. N., from 2–3 p.m.

Davenport — A healing Mass will be celebrated Nov. 19 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 10th and Iowa streets. Confessions start at 6 p.m., praise music begins at 6:45 p.m., and Mass starts at 7:15 p.m. Theme is generational healing. All are welcome.

Davenport — The Sisters of Humility invite the general public to pray with them at 11:40 a.m. Wednesdays during a special Mass for peace. It will be celebrated in the Magnificat Chapel at the Humility of Mary Center, 820 W. Central Park Ave.

Iowa City — The Knights of Columbus Council 842 will host a Veterans Day Mass at St. Mary Church Thursday, Nov. 11, at 5:30 p.m.

Iowa City — People meet to pray the rosary and receive Communion at 1 p.m. Wednesdays at Melrose Meadows Retire-ment Community. All Catholics are welcome.

Iowa City — Centering Prayer groups meet from 7-8 p.m. Mondays at the Mercy Hospital chapel, and from 9-11:30 a.m. the fourth Saturday of each month at a member’s home. For more information, call Maureen Kelley at (319) 338-8284.

Melrose — The Knights of Columbus of Albia sponsor a 24-hour adoration the first Friday of the month at St. Patrick Church in Melrose. Davenport — Afterglow Ministry teams meet for prayers for healing and personal needs Saturdays after 4 p.m. Mass at St. Alphonsus Church.

Camanche — Church of the Visitation’s Altar & Rosary holiday bazaar will take place Nov. 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event includes a quilt raffle, bake sale, silent auction, holiday items, and local arts and crafts. A lunch of homemade soups, hot sandwiches, homemade desserts and more will be served.

Davenport — The St. Alphonsus Parish Altar & Rosary Society will offer a craft show Nov. 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Nov. 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the gym at 2626 Boies Ave. A light breakfast will be served for $1.50. A lunch of sloppy Joes, soup, dessert and a beverage will cost $5. A raffle ticket drawing will take place Nov. 14. Prizes include a handmade quilt, handmade embroidered tablecloth, scrapbooking kit and supplies and fall decorations. Cost is $25 per table rental. Davenport — St. Mary Church’s 38th annual bazaar will take place Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Nov. 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. On Nov. 13, a luncheon will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $6 per person and free for children younger than 12. On Nov. 14, an authentic Mexican breakfast will be served for $6 per person. Both days will feature a bake sale, Christmas booth, knitting and crocheting booth, sewing booth, a trash and treasure booth and raffles.

Davenport — Christmas decorations, holiday gift items and holiday clothing for the family are available at Cinderella Cellar, 230 W. 35th St. The store is open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Proceeds benefit the Kahl Home for the Aged and Infirm. Cinderella Cellar is operated by volunteers from the Catholic Service Board.

Davenport — St. Ambrose University’s fall choir concert will feature Beethoven’s Mass in C Major, Opus 86, on Nov. 14 at 3 p.m. The work will be performed in Latin. The free, public event will take place at the Galvin Fine Arts Center, located on Gaines Street, between Locust and Lombard streets.

Fort Madison — The cantabile choir of Holy Family Parish will present its second concert of music in honor of St. Cecilia, the Patroness of Music, on Saturday, Nov. 13. The St. Cecilia, Sing! concert will be held at McAleer Hall across from Ss. Mary & Joseph Catholic Church. Music will begin at approximately 5:15 p.m., immediately following 4 p.m.  Mass, and will last 45-50 minutes. The concert will be followed by a chili supper. The public is invited. A freewill offering will be accepted. Proceeds will go to purchase new choir music.

Iowa City — All parents are invited to attend the Parents’ Forum Nov. 14 from 4-6 p.m. in the social hall at St. Patrick Church, 4330 St. Patrick Drive. Panel discussion relating to protecting children, bullying and parents as role models will feature Father Rich Adam, teachers Chris Ney, Tim Foley and Jackie Green and a police officer. North English — St. Joseph Parish’s fall dinner is Nov. 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Menu includes grilled pork, grilled chicken breast, green beans, baked potato, salads, roll, dessert and drink. Carryout orders are available. Freewill offerings will be accepted. There also will be a country store.

Ottumwa — St. Patrick Parish’s annual fall dinner will take place Nov. 14 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Roasted pork loin, mashed potatoes, green beans, dressing, salad, dessert and beverages will be served. Cost is $8 for adults, $3 for children ages 6-12 and free for children 5 and younger. Carryouts are available.

Tipton — St. Mary Church will hold its Christmas bazaar Nov. 13 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the parish hall, 209 Mulberry Street. There will be crafts, a cookie walk and food stand. Chicken noodle soup, chili, ham sandwiches and homemade pies will be served.
