Dorothy M. Schroeder, 87, a resident of Davenport, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2011 at Crest Health Care Center, Ridgecrest Village, Davenport.
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.
Dorothy M. Chamberlain was born on Sept.17, 1923 in Newton Township, Rural Whiteside County, Ill., a daughter of George and Rosella (O’Neil) Chamberlain. She was united in marriage to Elmer D. Schroder on Aug.13, 1949 in Rock Island. Elmer preceded Dorothy in death on Dec. 7, 1999. They shared 50 years of marriage together.
Dorothy was an active participant in local politics. She made an unsuccessful run for Scott County Recorder and was an election judge for many years. Dorothy also enjoyed her work in the polls at Adams Elementary. Her involvement in the Democratic Party was a big part of her life. Dorothy also enjoyed playing cards and was a proud breast cancer survivor. She participated in many of the Susan G. Komen Races for the Cure.
She was an active member of Holy Family Parish, and served as a Eucharistic Minister at church and to the sick in the hospital; Dorothy was a member of the Catholic Women’s League, the Daughters of Isabella, and the Women of the Moose.
Memorials may be made to Holy Family Church or to the American Cancer Society.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Gayle Lovejoy, Bettendorf; her son, Craig Schroeder, Apple Valley, MN; her brother, James “Gene” (Dorothy) Chamberlain, Albany, IL; her sister, Lorraine Verkruysse, Iowa City, IA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, her parents, brothers, Clyde of Erie, IL, Howard of Oswego, NY, and Leo Chamberlain of Clinton, IA and a sister, Isabel Hood of Clinton, IA.
