Students created characters out of materials and presented them to author and illustrator Susan L. Roth, left.

Third, fourth and fifth-graders attended a visiting author presentation at the Herbert Hoover Museum in Muscatine on Oct. 21.

Author and illustrator Susan L. Roth discussed her book “Listen to the Wind,” which was co-authored by Greg Mortenson who wrote “Three Cups of Tea.”

Her book is a story of Mortenson’s first school building project in Pakistan. She illustrated the pictures in the book by gathering various materials and tearing or cutting them into shapes for the picture. Roth demonstrated her technique of tearing the picture pieces for the students.
