Funeral services to celebrate the life of Loretta J. Beckwith, 78, a resident of Moline, formerly of Davenport, will be Saturday, April 2, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Rock Island.  

Burial will take place in Oakdale Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport with a prayer service offered at 4:00 p.m. to begin the visitation.  Mrs. Beckwith died Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Trinity Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf.

Loretta J. Peitscher was born on December 9, 1932 in Princeton, Iowa, a daughter of Orville A. and Elsie E. (Wickus) Peitscher.  She was united in marriage to Roger Beckwith on November 25, 1951 in Baltimore, MD. He preceded her in death in 2004.

Loretta was an executive secretary for TACOM formerly ACALA at the Rock Island Arsenal for over 19 years, retiring on March 29, 1996.  She was also a Consultant and Manager for Tupperware for 28 years.

Loretta was a member of the Sacred Heart, Rock Island, and a former St. Joseph Catholic Church, Davenport, Christian Mother’s, and a former member of the Q.C. Guild

Loretta was a candidate for Third Ward Alderman in 1973 losing by just a handful of votes.  She enjoyed dancing, reading, music of all kinds, musicals, theatre and dance performances, photography, writing, and cooking.  Time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought special joy to her life.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island, Q-C Kidney Center, Moline or Hope Creek Care Facility, East Moline.

Loretta is survived by her children, David Beckwith, Arvada, CO, Denise (Len) Spindel, Moline, Sue (Joe) Schaecher, Rock Island, Connie Roscoe, Aurora, CO, Gail (Tim) Bain, Rock Island, Glenn (Stefanie) Beckwith, Baraboo, WI; and ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren;  brothers, John Carlin, Arizona and Russell Bush, Florida; and special friends, Rosemary Eklund, Pat Nichols and Sr. Andrea Giltner.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Pfc. Steven P. Beckwith, USMC, 1972 and Clayton T.
