Memorial Day Mass slated in Davenport

DAVENPORT – Parishioners from the Catholic parishes of Scott County are invited to join with the Knights of Columbus, Loras Council 532, for an annual Memorial Day Mass to be held at Mount Cavalry Cemetery, 804 E. 39th St., at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 30. 

Bishop Martin Amos will preside. Msgr. James Parizek, dean of the Davenport Deanery, and various priests and deacons of Scott County will participate at the Mass.  Knights of Columbus councils in Scott County are invited to participate.  The Mass will be at the Priests’ Circle.  People should arrive early for parking and positioning their lawn chairs. Chairs will be provided for people with a handicap.

There will be a roll call for Knights from Council 532 and other councils who have died since Memorial Day 2010. There will also be a roll call of priests and deacons from the Diocese of Davenport who have died this past year.

State Sen. Joe Seng will play the organ for the people who will sing from St. Paul the Apostle, Holy Family and Our Lady of Victory parishes in Davenport. Others interested in singing should contact Ron Brune at (563) 355-6214.

In case of inclement weather, the Mass will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 916 East Rusholme St., at 9:30 a.m.  A sign indicating such change would be posted at the cemetery entrance at 7:30 a.m.
