The youth group of Ss. Joseph & Cabrini Parish in Richland was on a mission Sunday as youths arrived at the Hy-Vee store in Fairfield. In April, the group had bussed tables at the Fairfield Pizza Ranch and earned more than $300 to purchase items for the Richland Food Pantry.

In small groups, youths headed down the aisles of Hy-Vee with a grocery cart, $50 and a list of suggested grocery items. To add some fun to the task, students were challenged to see how many items they could purchase for less than $50.

The Hy-Vee store manager gave youths a discount on their total grocery purchase.

The groceries were then taken to Richland to be delivered to the food pantry, where demand is expected to increase after school ends.

The youth group will resume meetings in the fall.
