Cathleen A. “Kate” Heuer, 50, a resident of Davenport, died Sunday, June 12, 2011 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after a courageous battle with cancer.

Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street. Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Kate will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, June 17, 2011 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 417 Main Street, Davenport.  Cremation rites will follow services with a private family inurnment in Davenport Memorial Park. 

Cathleen Anderson McFedries was born on August 5, 1960 in Davenport, a daughter of John “Scotty” and Jean (Conn) McFedries. She was a 1978 graduate of Central High School.

Kate was a self-employed real estate broker for over 20 years, and was licensed in Arizona, Illinois, and Iowa. She was also an auctioneer, helping out at her family’s business, Scotty’s Auction Service. She enjoyed doing benefit auctions for numerous non-profits for 13 years.

Kate was a beautiful person, both inside and out. She had a free and spontaneous spirit, often planning extensive trips on the morning of.  Kate lived her life to the fullest and was always optimistic and giving. She was devoted to her faith and served as a lector at St. Anthony’s Church. Kate was an animal lover, and would go out of her way to rescue animals in need. She had a beautiful, loving relationship with her husband Jeff. Above all, she adored her five children, and gave them her unconditional love.

Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Care and Share, Fr. Conroy’s Vineyard, or to the Ronald McDonald Children’s Charities.

Kate is survived by her husband, Jeff, Davenport; children, Nicholas (fiancé, Caroline Rosen), Miami, FL, Whitney, Los Angeles, CA, Millie, Iowa City, Sonny, Los Angeles, CA, and Scotty, Davenport; her mother, Jean McFedries, Bettendorf, her father, John “Scotty” McFedries, Davenport; a sister, Jennifer McFedries, Beverly Hills, CA; a brother, Norman (Dorothy) McFedries, Davenport; special friends, Joseph Lavian, Sandy Carrillo, Violetta Cordoba, and Phil Scott; numerous nieces and nephews; and her canine companions, Charlie Brown, Stella Mae, and Baby Boluga, and a rabbit, Delilah.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Agnes McFedries-Kennedy in 2007.

The Heuer’s would like to thank Dr. Jayesh Mehta and Dr. Liz Voight at Northwestern Memorial Hospital for the love and care they gave to Kate. They also would like to thank Julie Skalak, who gave Kate the incredible gift of a kidney.
