Dorothy E. Martens, 88, a resident of Davenport, died Friday, July 29, 2011 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. 

Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy were Monday, August 1, 2011 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.  Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport.  Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home.

Dorothy Evelyn Loter was born on October 27, 1922 in Keokuk, Iowa, a daughter of Jesse and Mary (McNamara) Loter.  She was united in marriage to Walter H. Martens on December 4, 1941 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Davenport.  He preceded her in death February 21, 2010.  They shared over 68 years of marriage together.

Dorothy was primarily a homemaker, helping to raise her five children.  She cherished the time she spent with her family, and especially enjoyed her grandchildren’s activities.  She belonged to a ladies sewing and card club, loved to cook, bake, and to dance.

Memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.

Survivors include daughters, Sharon (Jim) Hancock, Barbara (Roger) Ossowski, and Katie Bloomer, all of Davenport; sons, Jim (Teresa) Martens, Bettendorf and Bruce (Gloria) Martens, Davenport; 15 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren with one on the way.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents, a sister, Elizabeth Loter, a brother, Jess “Bud” Loter, and a half-brother, John Kull.  May they rest in peace.
