DAVENPORT — The Davenport Knights of Columbus will hold its annual Tootsie Roll drive Aug.18-21 for people with mental handicaps. Knights, their families and other volunteers will wear yellow aprons while giving away Tootsie Rolls and asking for donations. The goal for Council 532 is $40,000.

Ninety percent of proceeds from the drive go to local community needs as requested by organizations that serve people with mental handicaps. Ten percent of the income is allocated by the state Knights of Columbus, and most of the funds go to the Iowa Special Olympics. No administrative costs are involved.

Donations collected last year went to Scott County Special Olympics, Scott County ARC, work programs through the Davenport school system for people with mental handicaps, the Handicapped Development Center, Unified Sports Program, Up with Families, Hand in Hand and other recipients.
