Couple sets up scholarships for graduates

Gene and Pat Winnike have set up two $2,000 scholarships for graduates of Holy Trinity Catholic Junior/Senior High School.

The couple created these scholarships by making a substantial endowment gift to the Holy Trinity Fund at the North Lee County Community Foundation. As this fund grows, the amount or number of scholarships may increase.

Gene and Pat have been longtime supporters of Catholic education in the area. Their three children, Dan, Mary and Nick, graduated from Marquette High School in West Point, where Gene was instrumental in developing the Marquette Foundation. Gene and Pat hope that by publicly offering financial assistance, they will encourage others to look at ways of establishing their own legacy through tax-favored “living giving.”

Holy Trinity is very grateful to the Winnikes for their generosity. Their scholarships will be available beginning with the 2012 graduates and will help students attend the colleges of their choice for years to come.
