Cayla Pieper, daughter of Craig and Shelly Pieper of Wever, raised the bar for the HTC Science Club this past May.

As a freshman, Pieper was the first Holy Trinity student to be invited to the International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles. Pieper took first place at the Eastern Iowa Science and Engineering Fair in the senior biological division for her project entitled, “Swine Weaning Rates: How does the Injection Time of Oxytocin Effect Weaning Rates?”

Pieper’s project also won her a $1,000 scholarship from the University of Iowa, as well as an Air Force award.

Pieper encourages other students to get involved with science fairs, “whether it’s at the local, regional, state or international level,” she says, “It’s such a fun experience; every event is different.”
