Sister Mary Clare Blunk

Sister Mary Clare Blunk, a native of and former chaplain in Davenport, died Sept. 24 at McAuley Manor in Aurora, Ill.

She was born in Davenport and graduated from Conception Academy in 1939. She attended the American Institute of Commerce Business College, and then worked for PF Collier Publishing Company while attending classes at St. Ambrose College and then Marycrest College, both in Davenport.

In 1949 she entered the Sisters of Mercy in Des Plaines, Ill. Sr. Blunk completed her B.S. in teaching from St. Xavier College in Chicago and taught at Catholic schools in Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin.

From 1975-80 Sr. Blunk worked in a business office in Chicago. From 1981 until 1994 she began her ministry in pastoral care as a chaplain at Mercy Hospital (now Genesis West) in Davenport. After her chaplaincy she cared for her brother until she moved to McAuley Convent in Aurora.

Her visitation was scheduled for Sept. 28 and her funeral was scheduled for Sept. 29 at 10 a.m. at McAuley Chapel. Interment is at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Aurora.
