LECTURES

Iowa City – Father Thom Hennen will speak on “Making Sense of Believing:  Issues in Faith and Reason” Nov. 3 from 7:30-9 p.m. at the University of Iowa English Philosophy Building room 107. His discussion will call upon historical philosophers and theologians. His free, public talk is part of the Journeys in Faith Speaker’s Forum.

LITURGY/PRAYER

Albany, Ill. – A healing Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Parish Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. The sacrament of reconciliation will be available beforehand.

Washington – A healing Mass with Msgr. Marvin Mottet, Father Troy Richmond and Father William Knee-miller will be celebrated Friday, Nov. 4, at St. James Church. Con­fessions start at 6 p.m., and Mass at 7 p.m.

MEETINGS

Davenport — A Soaking with a Purpose prayer meeting will take place Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. at Eagles’ Wings.

Davenport — A slideshow preview of the planned Eagles’ Wings pilgrimage to the International Euchar­istic Congress in 2012 will be shown Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. at Eagles’ Wings, 5816 Telegraph Road.

RETREATS

Clinton — A pilot post-CEW retreat called “Spirit Alive: A Charism Experience Weekend” will take place Nov. 11-12 at Prince of Peace Church. SOCIALS

Clinton – An ecumenical Peace Concert will take place at Zion Lutheran Church Oct. 30 at 3 p.m. The free event is sponsored by the Sisters of St. Francis and Zion Lutheran Church. Participating choirs include Zion Lutheran, St. Paul Lutheran and Faith Lutheran of Andover in addition to singers from Prince of Peace Catholic, Unity Center and the Sisters of St. Francis.

Davenport – St. Mary Parish’s annual bazaar will take place at the parish hall, Sixth and Fillmore streets, Nov. 12-13. Saturday’s schedule is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with lunch from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. for $6. Sunday’s schedule is 8:30 a.m.to 12:30 p.m. with an authentic Mexican breakfast for $6. The bazaar will include a bake sale, raffle, trash and treasure, knitting and sewing items, and a Christmas booth. Proceeds go to the church.   

Davenport – St. Alphonsus Parish will hold its annual craft show and luncheon Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Nov. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Gifts, baked goods and handmade crafts will be for sale. For more information or to rent a table, contact Pat Sigler at (563) 381-1086.

Davenport – Assumption High School and the class of 2012 invites people to “Pasta with the Pirates” Nov. 6 from 4-7 p.m. Tickets cost $8 for adults and $6 for students and senior citizens.

Davenport – Our Lady of Victory Parish’s Christmas Carousel Bazaar will take place at John F. Kennedy Catholic School Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The bazaar features holiday crafts, Christmas ornaments, baskets, pictures, linens, woods, florals, doll clothes, toys, autumn items, a candy shop, bake shop, an American Doll raffle and a raffle for cash prizes. Breakfast and lunch will be served.

Iowa City – The St. Patrick Parish Needle-workers’ bazaar will take place Saturday, Oct. 29, from 3-6 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 30, from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event will include a quilt raffle, bake sale and more.

Keokuk — Church of All Saints’ fall bazaar and festival will be Nov. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bazaar items: antiques, heirlooms and collectibles, baked goods, candy, religious goods, crafts, Christmas items and more. Dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dinner tickets are $8 for adults and $3 for children. Tickets may be purchased at the door the day of the dinner. Events are at 2981 Plank Road.

Keota — Holy Trinity Parish’s harvest dinner will take place Nov. 6 at St. Mary’s Parish Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Homemade candy and other items will be for sale. Raffles will take place.  Tickets are available at the door.

Knoxville — St. Anthony Parish’s fall dinner will take place Nov. 6 from noon to 2 p.m. Cost is adults: $8, children ages 5-10, $4; children under 5, free.

Melcher – Sacred Heart Parish will hold its fall dinner Sunday, Oct. 30, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tickets cost $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-10 and free for children 4 and younger.

North English — St. Joseph Parish will hold its fall dinner Nov. 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Carryouts will be available. Freewill offerings will be accepted. The event includes a country store with crafts and baked goods.

Nichols — St. Mary Parish hosts its annual auction and chicken noodle luncheon on              Sunday, Nov. 6 at St. Mary’s parish hall in Nichols. Silent auction is from 11:30 a.m. to  1 p.m. Regular auction follows.

Richmond – Holy Trinity Parish’s pork loin and beef dinner will take place Oct. 30 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $9 for adults and $3 for children ages 5-10. The day will include a country store, raffle and silent auction.

Tipton – St. Mary Parish’s Christmas Bazaar will take place at the church hall, 209 Mulberry St., Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be crafts, a cookie walk and food stand. Soup, sandwiches and pie will be served.
