DAVENPORT — Samuel Richard Fer of Troop 20 St. Paul the Apostle Parish has earned the Eagle Scout award. Only about 2 percent of all Boy Scouts achieve this rank.

His final project was removal of a failed retaining wall at his church, landscaping and building a replacement wall. Funds were raised through family, friends, Scouts, his parish and donations.

During his Scout years Fer earned 35 badges, was inducted into the Order of the Arrow, and received the Light of Christ, Parvuli Dei and Ad Altare Dei medals.

He is a sophomore at Assumption High School where he is a varsity-letter-winning swimmer, member of the marching and jazz bands and active in the theater.

His parents are William and Penny Fer.

Fer’s Eagle ceremony was held Oct. 23 at the Establishment Theater in Rock Island, Ill., where more than 120 people — including family, friends, Scouts and their families — celebrated the achievement.

Fer’s Eagle advocate was Tereze Jeffrey and his Scout master was Theresa Berghtold. He expressed his thanks to his pastor, Father Michael Spiekermeier; Scouts of Troop 20 and family and friends for their assistance and support.
