LECTURES

Bettendorf – St. John Vianney Parish will offer three evenings of teaching, music and prayer at 7 p.m. Nov. 13-15. Art Zannoni will present “The Challenge of Jesus: Come Follow Me.” He is a biblical scholar, theologian, award-winning author and workshop leader. He will speak on “Who is Jesus?,” “What Does Jesus Ask of Us?” and “The Challenge of Discipleship.” An Italian dinner will be served from 6-6:45 p.m. Nov. 14. Childcare is available each night. Sign-up sheets are available in the church gathering space.

Davenport — A leading scholar in the history of central Asia and Mongolia will give this year’s Geiger Chair lecture at St. Ambrose University. “Mongols and Global History” will take place Thursday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m. in the Rogalski Center. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Bettendorf – A centering prayer support group meets at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month from 6:30-7:30 p.m. After centering prayer, participants will discuss the book “Taste of Silence.” For more information call Judy at (563) 355-0611.

SOCIALS

Bettendorf – St. John Vianney Parish will hold a turkey salad sale Nov. 12 after 4:30 p.m. Mass and Nov. 13 after the 7:30 a.m., 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Masses. Cost is $9 for a large container or $5 for a small container. Croissants and desserts also will be sold.

Camanche – Church of the Visitation’s Altar and Rosary holiday bazaar will take place Nov. 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a quilt raffle, bake sale, silent auction, holiday items, and local arts and crafts. Lunch will be available.

Clinton – Prince of Peace Players will present the comedy “Just Another High School Play” Nov. 11 and 12. Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. with curtain time at 7 p.m. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for people 18 years old and younger. The play will take place at Prince of Peace Catholic School, 312 S. Fourth St.

Davenport – Goodies and Gifts is the theme for the 2011 St. Paul the Apostle Holiday Bazaar.  The bazaar will be held Nov. 19 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Nov. 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parish center.  There will be desserts, coffee, cinnamon rolls and turkey stuffing sandwiches. On Saturday, artisan vendors and the holiday white elephant sale will be featured. Raffle tickets for a Night on the Town, Reader’s Delight, Panther Perks and Home Entertaining baskets are being sold after Masses this weekend. 

Davenport – St. Mary Parish’s annual bazaar will take place at the parish hall, Sixth and Fillmore streets, Nov. 12-13. Saturday’s sched­ule is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with lunch from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. for $6. Sunday’s schedule is 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with an authentic Mexican breakfast for $6. The bazaar will include a bake sale, raffle, trash and treasure, and knitting, sewing and Christmas items.   

Davenport – St. Alphonsus Parish will hold its annual craft show and luncheon Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Nov. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Gifts, baked goods and handmade crafts will be for sale. For more information or to rent a table, contact Pat Sigler at (563) 381-1086.

Iowa City — The annual Regina Parents in Support of the Arts (PISA) wreath, garland, poinsettia and butter braid frozen pastry sale has started. Proceeds from the sale benefit the K–12 drama, music, band, orchestra, journalism, speech, debate and visual arts programs at Regina. Order forms can be found at www.icregina.com. North English — St. Joseph Parish will hold its fall dinner Nov. 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Freewill offerings will be accepted. The event includes a country store with crafts and baked goods.

Marengo – St. Patrick Parish will host its annual spaghetti supper and quilt raffle Nov. 13 at 957 Western Ave. from 3-7 p.m. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children younger than 12. Carryouts are available.

Ottumwa – St. Patrick Church will host its annual fall dinner from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 13. Cost is $8 for adults, $3 for children ages 6-12, and free for infants to 5-year-olds.

Tipton – St. Mary Parish’s Christmas Bazaar will take place at the church hall, 209 Mulberry St., Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be crafts, a cookie walk and food stand.

Toronto – St. James Parish will hold a community breakfast at the Toronto Fire Station Nov. 20 from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children 12 and younger, and free for preschoolers.

WORKSHOPS

Clinton — Father Peter Dougherty, founder of Michigan Peace Team, will lead a daylong nonviolence training workshop Nov. 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The Canticle, 841 13th Ave. N. He also will offer a public presentation, “Blueprint for a Nonviolent World,” at 7 p.m. Registration for the workshop is limited to 25 persons. Iowa City – Free workshops designed to foster a spirit of greater collaboration among parishes will take place Sunday, Nov. 20, at St. Patrick Church. Richard McCorry will present two sessions: “Creating More Welcoming Parishes” from 1-4 p.m. and “Spirituality During Times of Change” from 5-8 p.m.  An optional light supper will be offered from 4-5 p.m. for $7.
