Join conference on Haiti

On June 1-3, Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) are hosting a National Solidarity Conference for anyone involved in a relationship or partnership with a parish, project, organization or effort in Haiti.

We in the Office of Social Action want to make sure that those involved in efforts in and for Haiti receive information and the invitation for the June conference at Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.  The theme will be One Table Many Partners (Ayiti Yon Tab Anpil Zanmi).

In calling together this gathering, CRS and USCCB want to provide the opportunity to: listen to Haitian perspectives on what works; see what is being done for Church construction; learn to improve projects; network and coordinate with others; and advocate for U.S. policies that promote development.

Prior to the National Solidarity Conference, the Social Action Office will host an informational meeting Tuesday, Jan. 17, at noon at St. Vincent Center, 780 W. Central Park Ave., Davenport. The January meeting will allow representatives from various mission and relief projects with connections to parishes or communities in the Diocese of Davenport to begin first-time networking and coordinating conversations, in anticipation of a diocesan-wide report required at the National Solidarity Conference.

The January meeting will be the first step in more fully appreciating the sheer magnitude of effort and generosity that has been displayed as a diocesan community. Having a better idea of who is undertaking efforts will allow us to better describe volunteer opportunities and use available resources, while working toward supporting Haitians in reconstructing their country.

Please contact Esmeralda Guerrero at guerrero@davenportdiocese.org or call (563) 888-4211 for more information or to reserve your place at the Jan. 17 lunch meeting.
