Lessons and Carols in Iowa City

The Chamber Singers of Iowa City open their 41st season with a Service of Lessons and Carols on Sunday, Dec. 11 at First Presbyterian Church, 2701 Rochester Ave., Iowa City, at 4:30 p.m.

The service is based on that of King’s College, Cambridge, England.  It consists of a series of readings beginning with the story of the Fall of Adam and Eve in Genesis and going forward in time to the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem.  Interspersed with the readings are familiar carols sung by the congregation and special music sung by the Chamber Singers.

In keeping with the spirit of the season, the Chamber Singers and music director, David Puderbaugh are making this special performance a gift to the people of southeast Iowa.  There will be no charge for the performance.  No tickets will be required.  There will be an opportunity to make a free-will offering to benefit the Crisis Center of Johnson County to help those in need this holiday season.
