Scripture Reading Reflection: Jan. 15

By Father Andrew Kelly

Every Sunday through Word, body and blood, the believing community responds to Sunday’s Gospel (John 1:35-42): “Look, here is the Lamb of God.”
What happens is that the community begins to follow Jesus. The beauty of the Gospel is that Jesus turns to the community and asks:

“What are you looking for?’ They said to him, ‘Rabbi’ (which translated means Teacher), ‘where are you staying?’ He said to them, ‘Come and see.’ They came and saw where he was staying, and they remained with him that day.”

It is probably hard to believe that every Sunday, through Word, body and blood, the Lord turns to the community and asks: “What are you looking for?”

The community is in awe that through Word, body and blood the community discovers: “They came and saw where he was staying, and they remained with him that day.”

Again it is hard to believe that Jesus abides wherever and whenever believers gather for Word, body and blood. sBut this is where the Lord abides and invites: “Come and see.”
