Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Mildred D. “Mickie” Hughes, 92, a life-long resident of Bettendorf, will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 13, 2012 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4097 18th Street, Bettendorf.

The family will greet friends Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at church.  Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport.  Mickie died Monday, April 09, 2012, at Bettendorf Healthcare Center, Bettendorf.  Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mildred Dorothy Malik was born on January 15, 1920 in Muscatine, Iowa, a daughter of Joseph and Alberta (Prudance) Malik.  She married Edward Joseph Hughes on August 12, 1939 in Muscatine.  He preceded her in death on October 8, 1995.

Mickie was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, CHSI and volunteered at the Lutheran Manor.  She enjoyed playing bingo, singing and playing the accordion, but her greatest joy in life came from spending time with her family and cherished canine companion, “Brandy”.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John Vianney Catholic Church.

Mickie is survived by her children; Edward J. (Sandy) Hughes, DeWitt, Gerald L. (Judy) Hughes, of Arizona, Roger W. (Marilyn) Hughes, Davis, IL,  Steve A. (Phyllis) Hughes Bettendorf, and Jeffery L. (Mickey) Hughes, Davenport; 21 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Edward, son Randy Hughes on August 10, 1971 and son Preston D. Hughes on February 26, 2009.  May they rest in peace.
