EDUCATIONAL
Washington — St. James Parish invites members of all parishes to its parish mission May 11-12. Jesse Romero will present “To Know, Love, and Serve the Lord” at 602 West Second St. The event is designed to strengthen participants’ love for Jesus, Eucharistic Lord. Schedule for Friday, May 11, is 6-7 p.m. (English) and 7:30-8:30 p.m. (Spanish). Schedule for Saturday, May 12, is 9-10 a.m. and 10:30–11:30 a.m. (English). From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. is lunch for all. From 1-2 p.m. and 2:30-3:30 p.m. are Spanish-language sessions. Freewill offerings will be accepted.
LITURGY/PRAYER
Davenport – A healing Mass will be celebrated Friday, May 18 at Sacred Heart Ca­thedral. Confessions start at 6 p.m., praise music at 6:40 p.m., and Mass at 7:15 p.m. All are welcome.
Davenport – Several events are slated in May at Eagles’ Wings, 5816 Telegraph Road.  On Friday, May 11 and 25 at 7 p.m. are SWAP (Soaking With A Purpose) prayer meetings. At the May 11 meeting, Steven Fox from Geneseo, Ill., will share slides and stories from his recent mission trip to Brazil. On Wednesday afternoons, the Spiritual Growth group continues. Davenport — St. Paul the Apostle Parish’s annual May Rosary Campaign will be held each Friday in May in the church. Rosary begins at 6 a.m., Mass at 6:30 a.m. and breakfast and fellowship follow at 7 a.m.
MEETINGS
Bettendorf — The next presentation of the “Called and Gifted” series will be held May 30 at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. Part I will be held on five successive Wednesday evenings, 6:30-9 p.m. beginning May 30 in the church’s gathering space. Bro­chures with registration forms are available at parishes in the Daven­port Deanery. “Called and Gifted” is to help Catholics discover God’s call in their lives by discerning their unique spiritual gifts and charisms, which have been bestowed in baptism. Davenport — The St. Anthony Church grief group facilitators will offer a 9-week Grief Support Group. This group is for anyone who is grieving the loss of a loved one. It started Tuesday, May 1, and runs from 3:30-5 p.m. in the parish’s confidential and comfortable library, just north of the church.  The church and office address is 417 N. RETREATS
Wheatland — Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat has several events slated in May.  On May 15 is “Come to The Prairie in May” from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Enjoy time with the Creator. Fee is $20. On May 16 is “Knit One, Pray Too!” from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Fee: $20. On May 23 is “Nature at the Prairie” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This program will explore diversity in nature through hands-on activities and nature walks. Fee: $20. Wheatland – A centering prayer spring retreat will take place May 19 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat. The day will include centering prayer, Lectio Divina, lunch, a video or DVD with discussion, and time for solitude. Cost is $20, and registration is due May 18. Bettendorf — St. John Vianney Parish in Bettendorf is hosting a Trivia Night on May 19 in the church activity center to benefit the Youth Group Fire Pit Project. Festivities begin with a spaghetti supper. Dinner and trivia is $15 per person; doors open at 5:30 p.m. with dinner served at 6 p.m. and trivia starting at 7 p.m. Trivia will be played by eight-person teams; participants must be at least 12 years old. If you don’t have a full team, organizers will find one for you. Trivia consists of 10 rounds of 10 general knowledge questions. Mulligans will be sold 10 for $10. Everyone’s name will be entered into a drawing for door prizes. First-place team will receive its money back; the second-place team will receive half of its money back. Clinton – The Catholic Historical Center at St. Boniface is open at 2520 Pershing Blvd. The museum contains numerous articles, pictures and memorabilia from the five previous Catholic parishes of Clinton, Mount St. Clare school and Our Lady of Angels school. St. Boniface, built in 1908, also contains the religious records of members of the five former parishes. The center is open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon through August. Iowa City – St. Wenceslaus Parish’s Altar and Rosary Society will hold a plant sale fundraiser Sat­urday, May 12 from 7:30 a.m. to noon at the church, 630 E. Davenport St.
Iowa City — The 13th annual Yowell/Re­gina VIP Golf Classic will be held June 22 at the Pleasant Valley Golf Course, 4390 Sand Road SE. The classic raises money for Re­gina Inter-Parish Cath­olic Education Center. There are various sponsorship categories to choose from. Forms are available at www.icregina.com.
