Fortnight for Freedom events

The following events are scheduled as part of the Fortnight for Freedom campaign June 21-July 4.
Davenport
• June 21: Bishop Martin Amos will open the fortnight with a holy hour at Sacred Heart Cathedral at 7 p.m.
• June 24: St. Paul the Apostle Parish will host a holy hour at 6 p.m. Evening includes exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with prayer, praise music and readings.
• June 28: St. Paul the Apostle will pray the rosary with intentions for religious freedom at 6 a.m., 8 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. A roundtable discussion about implications of the health insurance mandate on religious freedom will follow the rosary at 6:30 p.m.
• June 28: Holy Family Church, adoration and Day of Prayer for Religious Freedom, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• July 4: Holy Family Church, Mass, 9 a.m.
• July 4: St. Paul the Apostle will celebrate Mass with a focus on religious freedom at 9 a.m. in the church.
Iowa City
• June 28: St. Mary Parish’s Holy Hour for Religious Freedom is at 7 p.m. From 8-9 p.m. in the church hall there will be a presentation and discussion of Pope Paul VI’s Declaration on Religious Freedom “Dignitatis Humanae.” Presenters will include professors Doug Menietti and Phillip Jones as well as Kathy Staley of the University of Iowa.  Copies of the document will be available at the presentation.
• July 4: St. Patrick Church, citywide religious freedom Mass, 9 a.m.
Muscatine, Ss. Mary & Mathias Parish
• Through July 3, St. Mathias Church will be open for prayer from noon to 1 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday. On weekdays from 7-8 p.m. is prayer in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament.
• June 21: Holy hour at 7 p.m. in the main church.
• June 21-29: Adoration in the chapel on Thursdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. On Thursday is a 6 p.m. rosary, Friday at 3 p.m. is the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and 6 p.m. is the rosary in Spanish.
• June 23: Movie on St. Thomas More called “A Man for All Seasons” from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Gannon Hall at St. Mathias.
• June 26: DVD presentation by Kent Ferris, director of social action for the Diocese of Davenport, from 6-7 p.m. in Gannon Hall.
• July 4: Mass at 8 a.m. at St. Mathias and noon public prayer at city hall. A parish float for religious freedom will be in the city parade. To participate, call Sue Miller at (563) 264-8357.
