KEOTA — Monica J. Watts, 79, of Washington, formerly of Keota, died Thursday, June 28, 2012, at Halcyon House in Washington.

Monica was born June 19, 1933, in Davenport, to Matthias and Florence (Schroeder) Bekker. She graduated from Assumption High School in 1951 and received a teaching degree from Marycrest College, both in

Davenport.  Monica taught at Pleasant Plain and Keota prior to her marriage to Theodore Watts on June 10, 1961 in Davenport. She was a homemaker several years before becoming the head librarian at Wilson Memorial Library in Keota for several years. Monica was a member of Holy Trinity Parish, a 4-H and Girl Scout Leader. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, crafts, reading, gardening and was active in supporting her children’s extracurricular activities.

Survivors include five children: Teresa (Shawn) Altenhofen of Keota; James Watts of Minneapolis, Minn.; Peter (Mary) Watts of Chesterfield, Missouri; Patricia (Dale) Stanek of Ely and Kenneth Watts of Sigourney; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a brother: Jerome (Barb) Bekker of Mokena, Ill.; and three nephews and one niece. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Ted in 1980.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, with Father Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m.  Monday, July 2, 2012, at the funeral home, where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m.
