Sister Mary Harriet Rump, OSF, 83, of Clinton passed away May 15 at The Alverno Health Care Facility.
Sr. Rump was born in Fremont, Neb., on April 13, 1929. She received her A.A. degree from Mount St. Clare College, Clinton; and her B.A. and M.A. in music with a voice major from DePaul University, Chicago. She joined the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Francis, Clinton on Sept. 8, 1952, and made her final vows on Aug. 12, 1958.
Sr. Rump spent 22 years of her active ministry in the music department of Mount St. Clare College, as a voice instructor and choral director. She also worked in the college business office for six years. Prior to working at the college, she had taught classroom music at Mount St. Clare Academy, at St. Boniface and Sacred Heart schools, Clinton; and at St. Ann’s, Lexington, Neb. She also served for eight years in parish ministry and school administration in California.
She retired to The Canticle in 2002.
Funeral was May 18 at The Canticle. Burial was in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery.
My heart is hurt. Sister Harriet made music fun….even back in the day when catholic kids weren’t supposed to have fun…life was supposed to be a struggle but Sister had a way that really made going to music fun. I loved to sing when she was in charge.
