Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Edward C. “Ed” McDonnell, 86, a recent resident of Gilbert, Arizona and a longtime resident of Davenport will be 10: 00 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2012, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 916 E. Rusholme Street, Davenport.  Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, DeWitt, Iowa. There will be visitation Saturday in the Gathering Space at the church from 9:00 until 10:00 am.

Ed died peacefully Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Sunrise Senior Living, in Gilbert, Arizona.

Edward C. McDonnell was born August 8, 1925 in Calamus, Iowa, a son of Leroy and Mary (Gribbon) McDonnell.  He was united in marriage to Loretta L. Drew on October 22, 1960 at Sacred Heart Church, Fillmore, Iowa.  She preceded him in death on April 25, 1989.  He then married Dorothy E. Taylor on May 19, 1990 at St. Paul the Apostle.

Mr. McDonnell was proud to have served our country; he was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Air Force.

Ed retired in 1987 as an Electrical Inspector for the City of Davenport.

In addition to the church, he was also a member of the, Blue Army, Davenport V.F.W., Elks, Moose, and the Knights of Columbus, 532.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, Gilbert, Arizona; step-daughters, Kathryn Ann Datan, and Susan Joyce (Mike) Embree; Sindy McDonnell, sister-in-law, as well as many special nieces and nephews and their families; 7 step-grandchildren and 10 step-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, William P. McDonnell, and Paul R. McDonnell, and a sister, Mary Therese Tague.
