Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial for James F. “Jim” Yager, 57 a resident of Quail Valley, CA., will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 3, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1506 Brown St. Bettendorf, IA.  Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport, with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post # 26.  Visitation will be on Thursday, August 2, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main St., downtown Davenport.  The family invites you to join then in a prayer service to be held on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.   There will be additional visitation on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until Mass time in the Gathering Space at church.

Jim died unexpectedly of a heart attack on Thursday, July 26, 2012 in Riverside, CA.  He was born July 16, 1955, the son of Emory F. and Therese A. (Conway) Yager.  He grew up in Bettendorf, attended Lourdes Memorial Catholic School, and graduated from Bettendorf High School.  In high school he was active in wrestling and football.  After graduation, Jim joined the United States Marines.  During his service he earned the Series Honor Award, his Dress Blues, the Leatherneck Award and was named Platoon Honor Man, all of which he was very proud.  After serving his country he attended the University of Iowa.

Jim relocated to Quail Valley, CA and was employed in the construction business with Laborers International Union of North America, Local 1184.  He was currently working for Griffith Company and his assignment was working on Morris Dam in California.  He was very proud of his work and told his family he loved to drive around and say “I built that.” He was a valued worker and had many great friends.

Jim was a member of St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church in Sun City, CA where he served as an usher and was an active volunteer. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He enjoyed golf and loved watching the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was devoted to his family and especially enjoyed family vacations and get-togethers.

Survivors include his sisters, Barbara (Tom) Moran, Austin, TX, Beverly (Jim) Bert, Windsor, CO, Betsy Yager, Davenport, Susan (Bob) Januska, Saint Louis, MO, Mary (Mark) Komperda, North Riverside, IL, and Karyn Yager, Davenport and a brother William “Bill” (Diana) Yager, Davenport; aunts, Betty Conway and Mary Ann (Jack) Clark both of Davenport and an uncle George (Pat)  Conway, Bettendorf, 12 nieces and nephews and 7 great nieces and nephews. Jim is also survived by a special long-time friend, Debbie (Danielle) Rowe of San Diego, CA.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents. May they rest in peace.
